S.E.T.I. ‘Eleven’ album

September 11, 2005

Originally a French project called ‘Twelvomatic’ which involved 12 different artists (Scanner, S.E.T.I., Merzbow, Illusion of Safety, Asmus Tietchens, John Duncan etc). Each artist gave one minute of sounds to a sound bank/library, which we then mixed into a 60 minute album each. My album was going to be the first in the series but the originating label went down in 2003/4. Details & files here

Berlin – Over and out

June 27, 2004

Well, after many hours of work, my S.E.T.I. performance in Berlin has been and gone. It went very well and the sound system was very good – many thanks to Stefan from Ironflame.de for the incredible amount of hard work he did in setting this whole thing up. He was let down by many people along the way but still managed to bring it all together somehow. Not sure how the Laibach copy bands fared because while they were busy bashing their drums and showing off their WW2 outfits, I was already on the way to the airport.

The event was video recorded and a DAT was made of each act, so I hope to be able to share some of the sights and sounds with you lot soon!

Next on the output stage will probably be the S.E.T.I. & Si_COMM ‘Hyperlanguage’ recordings for Resonance FM. Conceptually devised by Si_COMM, this will be an extension to the ‘Probe’ concept of mankind’s adaptation for space and the future.

S.E.T.I. live in Berlin prep

May 22, 2004

Been debating with myself about how to do this performance. Most likely scenario will be that I’ll use Reason on the Powerbook with a small midi keyboard. Have created a few of the backing noises for cd and MD. Mostly NASA audio for MD which has been processed through Soundhack, DFX plug-ins and KT Granulator. On the cd are deeper (bass frequencies) tracks that evolve slowly over time. The idea is that I’ll start cd and MD off at some random point in the proceedings and play/process over them. I try to feel how the audience react (or not) and adjust the sound content accordingly. If they’re asleep, I’ll make sure they get a damn good blast ;->
