I will continue to use AI generated images and text as foundations for my projects. Can they be considered ‘ready-mades’ by the art world? How did the art world react to the Dadaists’ ready-mades? Who cares? I believe part of the artistic process is in knowing what prompts to use to get the results you’re after. The same as programming a synth sound or manipulating a sample. The image or text are generated by the synthetic organism, based on my selection of certain criteria (the prompt) and I go ahead and manipulate them further to produce the desired effect. Or trash them and start again.

Software can be very useful in generating Surreal and Dadaist material. I’ve been doing it for some time, to deconstruct text for asemic art and Dadaist Poetry. I’m a bit uncertain about how recent AI scrapes information from a variety of sources, without getting any permission. Imitating dead writers, poets, composers, and visual artists, is perhaps less of an issue, but for the current working for a living creatives, it takes their signature skills without compensation.
It is going to be a crazy knot to untie, no laws covering this technological advance, yet.
You can see my Dadaist nonsense on my Implied Spaces blog and my Asemic Tarot blog. 🙂
